ABC Celebrates Education - September 2010

On Saturday evening Sept. 11th at the lovely home of Ed and Michele Barnes, A Better Chance of Wilton scholars and many Wilton community supporters came out to enjoy a night of great food, dancing and fun. Approximately 120 guests were in attendance along with Ray Chambers, our first ABC scholar (WHS ‘99), who returned to share his ABC experience. His story compelled guests to bid on the many silent auction items, which included JetBlue airline tickets, get away travel packages, an 8 bedroom log cabin near Park City, Utah, and a VT ski house. The theme “Celebrate Education” was a reminder to all of the importance of education to the well-being of our country and world. The event’s committee was mindful of Sept. 11th and took the opportunity to share a message that parallels with the mission of the ABC program. ABC thanks the Barnes family, and the committee: Michele Barnes, Lisa Benison, Cara Calabrese, Valerie Colburn, Melissa Elmasry, Stephanie Gordon, Kris Herlyn, Kim Horner, Courtney Kleeman, Diane McDermott, Charlotte Morello, Diana Prince and Julie West. With the enthusiasm and support of these women, ABC raised over $35,000.

ABC Welcome Picnic - August 2010

On August 28th, ABC of Wilton welcomed back all the scholars and their families at Trackside Teen Center.  All of the current scholars excitedly reunited with their Host Families to kick off the new school year.  Everyone was thrilled to welcome three freshmen boys who are joining the program. The environment was quite energized as these scholars were meeting their Host Families for the first time.  Everyone was happy to meet and greet: Raphael Mettle from the Bronx and his hosts the Mark and Cabell Molina family, Jean Pierre Clarke from Manhattan and his hosts the David and Lisa Lamason family, and Jean Robert (JR) Bonhomme from New London and his hosts the Barry and Leslie Hines family, who are hosting an ABC scholar for the second time.  We also welcomed the John and Eileen Krueger family, who will now be hosting Onessa Faulknor, who is in her junior year.  It was a wonderful and heart warming event!

ABC Golf Outing - May 2010

The beautiful Redding Country Club was the setting for the 14th Annual ABC Golf Classic, held on May 25th. Another full field of foursomes competed for such prizes as vacations, cruises and of course – bragging rights at the 19th hole! Congratulations to low gross winners Jim Bardwell, John Arrix, Peter Bennett and John McDermott. Special thanks go out to our Reception Sponsor – The Williams Capital Group, L.P. – and our tireless committee; David Finkelstein, Rick Fingeret, Nick Lee, Mike McGroarty and Adrienne Reedy.
